Summary

The Tatevatsi Economics Olympiad 2026 brought together over 2,000 students from around 100 schools across Armenia in the school round, with 116 advancing to the National Round held at the American University of Armenia. Following a rigorous written exam and interview process, 14 winners were selected. Students who completed the competition in English will be considered for representing Armenia at the International Economics Olympiad, with final names to be announced during the award ceremony.

From School Round to National Stage

The journey to the National Round began with the school stage, which saw a significant increase in participation this year. More than 2,000 students from around 100 schools across Armenia took part, compared to around 1,000 participants in the previous year, highlighting the growing interest in economics among high school students.

The competition was particularly intense, with the passing threshold reaching 96%, making it exceptionally challenging to advance. As a result, 116 top-performing students qualified for the National Round.

Participants represented a wide geographic distribution, with approximately 30% of students from Yerevan and the remaining 70% from regions including Armavir, Shirak, Tavush, Syunik, Lori, and others, reflecting the truly nationwide reach of the Olympiad.

The National Round

On April 18, the National Round of the Tatevatsi Economics Olympiad was held at the American University of Armenia, organized by the Center for Behavioral Decisions through its School for Economic Decisions unit.

This stage marked a key milestone in the Olympiad, bringing together the strongest students who successfully advanced from the school round, reflecting the growing nationwide interest in economics.

Competition Format

The National Round was designed to assess knowledge, creativity and logic through a structured, multi-step process:

Written Test (50 min)

National round participants completed a 50 minutes written exam that evaluated economic intuition, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Students had the option to take the test in either Armenian or English. Those who selected English had a chance to be considered for advancement to the international stage, as participation in the International Economics Olympiad is conducted exclusively in English.

Interview Round

Based on the written results, the top 15 students advanced to the interview round. This stage assessed depth of knowledge, logic, and creativity.

Following the interview round, final rankings were determined.

Winners and International Representation

At the conclusion of the National Round, 14 students were recognized as winners of the Tatevatsi Economics Olympiad 2026.

From this group, the students who completed the competition in English will be selected to represent Armenia at the International Economics Olympiad, which will take place from August 10 -14 in Olympia, Greece. Their names will be announced during the award ceremony.

The international round brings together students from more than 30 countries, offering a unique opportunity to compete globally and engage with peers from diverse educational backgrounds.

Ambassador Schools and Active Participation

An important component of the Olympiad is the engagement of schools through special recognition programs.

The Ambassador School Program recognizes schools that actively promote economic education within their communities and demonstrate high levels of student participation. These schools play a critical role in expanding the reach and impact of the Olympiad.

In parallel, the Most Active School initiative highlights institutions with the highest levels of student involvement. By encouraging broad participation, these programs ensure that the Olympiad is not limited to top performers alone, but serves as an inclusive platform for exploration and learning.

Looking Ahead

As the Olympiad progresses to the international stage, we are proud to support the students representing Armenia in Olympia, Greece. Their journey reflects both individual excellence and a broader commitment to advancing economic education in the country.

We look forward to the International Round and to continuing to grow the impact of the Tatevatsi Economics Olympiad in the years ahead.
