Held in the historic city of Olympia, Greece, from August 21 to 24 brightest young talents gathered for the International Economics Olympiad (IEO) 2025. Bringing together participants from various countries, the Olympiad was more than just a competition, it was a celebration of knowledge, innovation, and international friendship!

Bootcamp in Athens

Before the official start of the 2025 International Economics Olympiad in Olympia, Greece, participants gathered in Athens for an intensive preparatory bootcamp from August 17 to 21. This bootcamp, organized by the Economic Fundamentals Initiative (EFI), brought together students from 7 different countries including Armenia. For several days, students engaged in rigorous academic training and collaborative learning.

Throughout the program, students immersed themselves in key economic and methodological concepts, strengthening their understanding of microeconomics, macroeconomics, and finance. The sessions were led by three famous economists from American universities - Randall Filer, Joe Calhoun, and Tawni Ferrarini - who guided the participants through a series of lectures, problem-solving workshops, and interactive discussions.

The bootcamp served as a vital step in equipping students with the analytical skills, strategic thinking, and confidence needed to tackle the intellectual challenges of the Olympiad’s final round. It also offered a unique opportunity to connect with like-minded peers from around the world, fostering an international spirit of curiosity and collaboration.

During their stay in Greece, our students also visited the Embassy of Armenia in Athens. The participants were warmly welcomed, engaging in meaningful conversations about their studies, ambitions, and the importance of representing Armenia on such a global platform.

The Olympiad: A Global Stage in Ancient Olympia

The International Olympiad was held in Olympia, the symbolic birthplace of the Olympic Games. This year’s International Olympiad brought together 130 students from 28 countries at the International Olympic Academy in Olympia, a venue that serves as an inspiration for athletes and scholars alike.

Over several days participants engaged in challenging quizzes and tests that questioned their knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and resilience. The Olympiad was not solely about individual achievements; it fostered an environment of teamwork and collaboration, where students shared ideas, strategies, and cultural perspectives. This exchange of knowledge and experiences enriched the participants, allowing them to grow not only as competitors but also as global citizens.

Among the notable achievements of this year’s Olympiad, Armenia was also among the medalists, highlighting the talent and dedication of its students.

Alongside celebrating the students' achievements, the Olympiad also recognized the contributions of the organizers and teachers. Their efforts and dedication are essential in making the event possible, ensuring that everything is thoroughly planned and executed.

The International Olympiad in Olympia not only serves as a platform for academic excellence but also reinforces the values of friendship, respect, and understanding among diverse cultures. The legacy of the Olympiad continues to inspire future generations of students to strive for greatness, both in their studies and in their contributions to a more interconnected world.

Highlights included:

  • Written Examinations: Students tackled two rigorous exams that tested their understanding of economics, finance, and problem-solving.

  • Mentorship Meetings: Participants met with experienced mentors, who shared insights on careers, research, and the future of global economics.

  • Cultural Events: A Greek traditional dance performance by the Lyceum Club of Greek Women of Pyrgos created a festive atmosphere and gave students a taste of local culture.

  • Tour of Ancient Olympia: One of the most memorable experiences was a guided tour of the ancient archaeological site, connecting participants to centuries of history and the timeless spirit of competition.

  • Awards Ceremony and Keynote Speech: The Olympiad concluded with a formal ceremony honoring the hard work of all participants and celebrating the medal winners.

Team Armenia

Our team’s dedication and hard work were rewarded with a bronze medal. Among the representatives were students from UWC Dilijan, Shinuhayr Secondary School, and the British International School of Armenia. This accomplishment highlights not only the talent and hard work of our participants, but also the invaluable guidance of their mentors and teachers, and the encouragement of the wider community standing behind them.

Beyond medals, our students gained experience, friendships, and inspiration. They had the unique opportunity to discuss economics with peers from across the globe, exchange ideas with professors and experts, and learn in a truly international environment.

Gratitude to Our Partners

This event would not have been possible without the support and dedication of many partners. We are deeply grateful to the Economics Fundamentals Initiative (EFI) for their vision and commitment to making world-class economic education accessible, and to the International Economics Olympiad organizer for creating such an inspiring and inclusive platform for young minds to shine. Our heartfelt thanks also go to the mentors and teachers who guided our students with patience and expertise, and to the schools, families, and institutions that encouraged them every step of the way. It is through this combined effort that Armenia’s students were able not only to compete at the highest level but also to learn, grow, and bring home a medal that reflects the strength of an entire community.

The Journey Continues: Registration for 2026 Olympiad

As the 2025 International Economics Olympiad concludes, we already look forward to what’s next. We are confident that Armenian students will continue to rise to the challenges, building on this year’s success and striving for even greater achievements in 2026.

The registration for schools to participate in the 2026 school round will open in November.
